He worked in the Legal Department of the Sandoz Group from 1974, most recently as general counsel. From there, he became a partner in the firm Wenger Plattner, which is active in Basel, Zürich-Küsnacht and Bern, on January 1, 1997. His consultation work focuses on healthcare, pharmaceutical law, federal and administrative law as well as insurance law. He is a judge at the court of appeal of the canton of Basel-Stadt and is a member of the institute board of Swissmedic.

Gerhard Schmid, born in 1944 and studied Law in Basel. In 1970, he obtained his PhD with a dissertation on constitutional law. He passed the Swiss bar in 1972. In 1980, he worked as an assistant professor in Public Law and Political Science at Universität Basel, and was promoted to associate professor in 1984.
